Talcum Powder

Talc is a mineral found in very common products like Johnson’s Baby Powder and Shower to Shower. It is popular for its ability to absorb moisture. These products have been used by women as a feminine hygiene product for decades. As far back as the 70’s doctors have suggested there is a link between talcum powder use and ovarian cancer. So have a number of studies that have been conducted since that time.

Many doctors have been aware of this information as many patients had been instructed to discontinue use of talc products after receiving an ovarian cancer diagnosis. Though this information has been available for decades, it wasn’t until earlier this year that the cancer risk had hit mainstream channels. Following two significant verdicts awarded to women who had developed ovarian cancer after using Johnson & Johnson talc products came an influx in news coverage about the cases and dangers associated with using talc in the genital region.

Harvard researcher and professor Dr. Daniel Cramer who testified in one talc case estimates that thousands of women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year as a result of talcum powder use.
